When I stumbled across this recipe, I immediately thought back to the Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches we had on vacation in Philly. Wow...were they amazing! If this recipe could come close to achieving those flavors, I knew I'd be one happy mama.
This recipe did not disappoint! It was amazing! It is a great way to use ground beef (or venison for us) in a new way with a totally different flavor.
I typically shy away from green peppers and sub them out for colored peppers since I really don't like the taste of green peppers. For this recipe, I stuck with the green peppers and will certainly do so the next time I make it as well. It was perfect!
Substitutions/Additions made by Cooking After Class for Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe:
- substituted venison for ground beef
- did not saute in butter, eliminated butter and used a non stick pan
- bought a 3 pack of green peppers and used all three
- used sliced muenster cheese instead of provolone because I had some leftover in the fridge
